SEGRO plc "Building Green"

E-commerce has spurred immense growth in the UK warehouse #property market, with the #covid19 pandemic being further catalyst to online. A whopping 3.8 million m² of new #warehouse space is coming onto the market this year, twice that of 2020, as #ecommerce has soared.

With the built #environment generating 40% of GHG #emissions, and refitting older buildings being a challenge, it's important new builds are designed to be as environmentally low impact as possible if the UK is to meet its 2040 #netzero target.

It's good news, thus, to British property investor and developer SEGRO plc starting construction this week of its 18,000 m² SEGRO Park Tottenham.

Designed with photovoltaic cells, “green walls” and specified for A+ energy and 'excellent' BREEAM scores, the industrial park is set to be carbon neutral, the ‘greenest’ development of its kind in London.

This said, SEGRO hasn’t stopped at the ‘E’ of #environmental, #social and #governance (#esg) #sustainability interests and are working with Haringey Council to deliver skills and training programmes to help local community members secure employment.

Actress Lily Tomlin once said "the road to success is always under construction." Good to see #construction on the road to success, too.
